Luca Ferreri received a MSc in Mathematics in 2010 under the supervision of prof. Ezio Venturino with a thesis about mathematical epidemiological models. He is now a PhD student at the Computational Epidemiology Group of the Department of Veterinary Sciences, University of Torino, Italy, under the supervision of Mario Giacobini, where he works on the modeling of vector-borne diseases and more in general on the computational and mathematical approach to the veterinary epidemiology. He is currently visiting the EPIcx lab for the Fall semester 2012.
Luca Ferreri's main research activity is the modeling and the investigation, both analytical and computational, of the spread of tick-borne diseases such as Tick Borne Encephalitis or Lyme Borelliosis. In such kind of vector-borne disease the use of network modeling could be of great interest for the heterogeneous nature of contacts between vectors and hosts. Currently, Luca is visiting the EPIcx lab to further develop his skills on the data-analysis of large scale networks and to improve his knowledge on the network theory applied to the epidemiology.
