2026 hantavirus cluster

An outbreak of Andes virus (ANDV) infection aboard the MV Hondius cruise ship has become the focus of international public-health attention in May 2026. This page reports the analyses we did in response to the outbreak to assess the risk of secondary clusters.

The work was supported by: EU Horizon Europe grant SIESTA and ESCAPE; Agence Nationale de la Recherche grant DiscoReel; ANRS | Maladies infectieuses émergentes grant PReViX; Working Group on Pandemic Preparedness of the French Research Action on Modeling Epidemics (FRAME), funded by ANRS | Maladies infectieuses émergentes.
