Here we explore the effects of contact duration, frequency, and time sequence of contact events on the resulting epidemic spreading along the network of contacts. Infectious disease simulations are performed on high-resolution contact data collected at the 2009 Annual French Conference on Nosocomial Infections through RFID tags worn by 405 attendees. Results show the importance of the duration of contacts for the realistic simulation of disease spreading on timescales of the order of few days. [image courtesy of W Van den Broeck]
