Postodoctoral research position on network epidemiology of healthcare-associated infections
Project: “ARCANE — Antimicrobial Resistance Control through Adaptive Healthcare Networks”

Location: Paris, France
Institution: INSERM | Sorbonne Université Faculty of Health Sciences, Pierre Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health (IPLESP)
Host: Sorbonne Université Modeling Outbreaks Center
Supervisor: Dr. Vittoria Colizza
Duration: 2 years (1+1 year contract)
Expected start date: June 2026
Expected salary:
€2,997–4,034 gross monthly salary, depending on experience

Position:
We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in network epidemiology to study the spread of healthcare-associated infections in France. This work is part of the French-German collaboration of the ARCANE project, funded by ANR, investigating how the structure and temporal dynamics of healthcare networks influence the spread of antimicrobial‑resistant pathogens across hospitals. The project combines hospital admission data, network science, and mathematical modeling to understand pathogen dissemination and evaluate control strategies. The postdoctoral researcher will develop and analyze temporal healthcare networks derived from patient transfer data, contribute to modeling pathogen spread across healthcare institutions, and perform cross-country analyses. The work will involve network analysis, computational modeling, and simulation of control strategies for healthcare‑associated infections.

Candidate profile:
Applicants should hold a PhD in network science, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related quantitative field.

Required skills:
  • Strong background in network science or complex systems
  • Experience with temporal networks and dynamical processes on networks
  • Programming skills
  • Experience working with large datasets

Additional assets:
  • Experience in infectious disease modelling
  • Experience with healthcare-associated infections or antimicrobial resistance.

Research environment:
The position will be hosted at the Sorbonne Université Modeling Outbreaks Center (SUMOC) at Sorbonne Université | INSERM in Paris, within the Pierre Louis Institute of Epidemiology and Public Health. Established in 2025, SUMOC is a center for research and innovation in infectious disease modeling to support epidemic preparedness and response. The work will be conducted under the supervision of Dr. Vittoria Colizza, founding director of SUMOC, within the EPIcx lab of the Center.

Application:
Please submit a CV, cover letter, and contact information for two references to epicx.lab @ gmail.com, specifying “ARCANE postdoc position” in the email subject. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
