Pietro Coletti earned his MSc in Theoretical Physics from the university of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2010 with a thesis about neutrino interactions and their effect on neutrino oscillation experiments. He then started his PhD at the university of Rome “Roma Tre” in January 2011, studying the dynamics of out of equilibrium systems, with a particular focus on the metastable behavior of the Potts model. Since September 2014 he is post-doctoral fellow at ISI foundation, working on computational epidemiology.
Pietro is currently studying the dynamics of seasonal diseases, like influenza. This kind of diseases have a periodic behavior that can show a high degree of synchrony across space. Numerical simulations of disease spreading can help to assess the role of the human transportation networks in the synchronization process, that can help to develop strategies for disease prevention and vaccination.
